In my youtube wanderings I found a documentary on the old bbs systems that built the internet.I find this utterly fascinating and am wondering how far back some of you guys go on here. I've talked to some blind people a little older than me who were the 12 year old kid with a modem in 87 or 92. How did you guys do it. It was buggy and slow for sighted people. Were any of us zoners helping to build the internet? Was this the bbs back in the day that if you knew the right people they'd help you hook up and go online to find you weren't the only blind kid in the world? I've heard of some people creating their own mobile bbs networks, kind of a secret internet. I think that's neat. Tiffany

This is loosely modeled after bbses, but did not start as one. I remember many PC Board and Wildcat and Renegade and other such systems from the 90's.

Was compuserve one of the beginning internet sites? A vendor installed a computer here and put on compuserve. He was on compuserve also. I was definitely into it. My phone bill was high too because I was connected to the phone line, no cable.

When I was a young lad, like ten years ago, we did an elementary school thing on a BBS. I found it interesting, and loved it. Yes, I am 16, and was rather inteligent at six. I was gifted with computers, and BBS was the rage in my hood, because we couldn't afford much in that part of the state.

Aww, I miss the old BBS days. I guess I got on my first BBS in 94 or so while I was in college. I was hooked after that. lol

How cool is that. I just did a google search and there are still some corners of the web that are strictly bbs's. I really feel old, a sixteen year old that knows what a bbs is. Yep, compuserve, fidonet, were the first big bbs networks. A lot of bbs's were integrated in to the internet and were never the same. I wish they had known about these things when I was six. I loved computers. I did listen to a great deal of channel six, ie, pbs back then so yeah I was a nerdy 80s child. Just google bbs's still in use and you'll be surprised what you'll find. I love the idea of a local mini version of the internet. A friend of mine found out the hard way back in the day that no, compuserve is not free. Would you believe fidonet goes where the web isn't allowed to go, think Iran and China. I think it must suck to be a sysop though. I don't think my Ipad will work with telnet you do still have to dial in. When I get my Big Mac I will give this a try. Tiffany

I use to love bbs's. Did you guys play door games? Trade wars and the like?
I still remember the original legend of the red dragon.
